My husband surprised me with a Valentine’s Day date last night. It was a pleasant surprise and I was so impressed with his forethought. Not that he’s not sweet to me, but booking a date night isn’t exactly something he thinks to do. And y’all, this time he booked a reservation and secured a babysitter all by himself! That’s a big deal.
And it was a great night. Nothing crazy, but given the fact we have a 2 ½ year old and a 6 week old, it was much needed! We had a nice dinner at Valentino’s and I even got a gift. Even if it was a “Love Kit” from CVS. Ha!
But seriously, it’s amazing how something as simple as my husband planning a date and giving me a $6 (gag) gift can make such a difference in our relationship. It doesn’t matter what we do or where we go. It’s the thought he put into it, the care in planning and the fact that he wanted to do something special for me. Things have been so hectic around here with the new baby and new gig, that I wasn’t even thinking about Valentine’s Day, let alone having a date! But the fact that my husband did think about it (and made it happen) meant more to me than he even knew.
As Road Widows, we often are the ones making plans and taking time for one another when our guys are home from the road. Yet sometimes it’s really nice when the tables are turned. It shows they care and miss us too. And no price tag can be put on that!
So what kinds of things have your guys surprised you with?

My husband is not a gift-giver so it’s always a fun surprise when he gets me something on the road – like a band shirt! & one time he got me some hand-knit slippers in Minnesota and I love them! As for planning dates, it’s pretty much my territory.
Same here! I love it when my husband randomly brings me something from the road. But, yeah, making plans of any sort is totally up to me. I’ve planned all of our Anniversary dinners, etc. But… that’s okay. At least I know I’ll like what we do!
